Pyrimidine is a heterocyclic organic molecule present in many pharmaceutical and naturally derived compounds. Used in the synthesis and discovery of antiviral medication, such as in the case of HIV and HSV. Also used in the synthesis of potent inhibitors of 15-lipoxygenase in the reduction of the release of leukotrienes.
