2-Hydroxyisobutyric Acid is used as a reagent in the preparation of fully functionalized tetronic acids. Also used in the synthesis of bioisosteres of trimethadione, N-derivative-1,2,3-oxathiazolidine-4-one-2,2-dioxides from α-hydroxyamides which display anticonvulsant activity.
